On the strength of 106 professional fire fighters
and fire officers the City of Huntington Fire Department provides
quality life saving fire and emergency services to its citizens,
workers, and visitors.
Established as a professional department in 1897,
the City of Huntington Fire Department has a long rich heritage
dating back to the 19th century. The department provides nine
fully staffed firefighting companies with a compliment of
support staff and apparatus responding from six stations
strategically located throughout the city of 51,475.
Additionally, since Huntington is located on the banks of the Ohio
River and its tributaries, and is the river's largest port area, the
department also is capable of water rescue and operations as well.
The department is responsible for the fire protection of a myriad of
diverse industries, schools, commercial businesses, transportation
and residential structures and provides first responder emergency
medical assistance.
The City of Huntington Fire Department holds a
Class 2 rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO) and was the
first department in the State to achieve this status.
