Huntington Police Explorers

What is Exploring?

Are you thinking about a career in law enforcement? Believe it or not, you aren't alone. Explorers are young men and women, ages 14-21, who want to take a glimpse of their futures before they actually get there.

Most people don't have the opportunity to learn about their career choice until the day they first punch that clock. But, explorers have a chance to get their feet wet before taking the plunge.

Along with officers of the Huntington Police Department, explorers get learn all about law enforcement, everything from the mundane to the unexpected.

By the time explorers are ready to begin their careers, they already know what they are getting in to.

Explorers learn the facts behind the laws, from those who know and enforce the law.

Explorers get to see the legal process first-hand by visiting the courts and correctional facilities.

In addition to all this, explorers receive training in alcohol awareness and D.U.I. prevention, narcotics law, juvenile law, traffic and crowd control. They are trained in first-aid, self-defense, and CPR.

Explorers are involved. They will take what they have learned and apply it in many ways to help their communities. Explorers patrol with officers, and assist at neighborhood activities.

Officers of the Huntington Police Department strive to educate the young adults of the community in the law enforcement profession. As a direct extension of the Huntington Police Department, the explorers will serve our community with respect and courtesy.
