Employment
The Huntington Police Department is always interested in high quality police applicants. We test approximately every 2 years, in accordance with West Virginia civil service law, and hire from that list of applicants until either we exhaust the list or it expires. We are currently hiring from a test given on November 15, 2007, and are not accepting applications at this time.
Applicants undergo written and physical agility tests, medical and psychological screening, and a thorough background investigation before being sent to the WV State Police Academy for 16 weeks of basic training. This is followed by another 8 weeks of field training here at HPD. New hires have a one year probationary period.
The Huntington Police Department only takes applications in the 6 months prior to a hiring test, and applications are available at the city clerk’s office in city hall during that time. When we are ready to start taking applications again, we advertise for 6 months prior through all local media outlets. |
