Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Bureau is responsible for all investigations—
felony, misdemeanor, sensitive, special investigations, polygraph examinations and background investigations.
This Bureau is commanded by Captain Steve Hall and Lieutenant Rocky Johnson. The Bureau is divided into three (3) units— Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property, and Crimes Against Family.
The Crimes Against Persons Unit has one (1) Sergeant and two (2) Detectives and is responsible for the following investigations: Homicide, Robbery, Adult Sexual Assault and Adult Missing Persons. \
The Property Unit has one (1) Sergeant and two (2) Detectives and is responsible for the following investigations: Burglary, Breaking and Entering, Fraud, Identity Theft, Computer crimes, and other “White Collar” crimes.
The Family Unit has one (1) Sergeant and two (2) Detectives and is responsible for the following investigations: Domestic crimes, Child Sexual Assaults, and Juvenile-related crimes. A School Resource Officer is also assigned to this Unit and detailed to Huntington High School.
In 2007, there were 7,389 cases forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Bureau for follow-up investigation. The Bureau was responsible for the clearance of three of four homicides, 29 of 36 armed robberies from businesses, two home invasions with injury, and the disruption and arrest of a major burglary ring operating in the Westmoreland section of Huntington. The Property Unit Detectives were also instrumental in developing a scrap metal ordinance and web site data base listing scrap metal customer information. |
