Huntington residents now have an easier way to search city ordinances and the city charter.
Huntington’s municipal code and charter, which consist of more than 1,300 pages, is now online at https://www.municode.com/library/wv/huntington/codes/code_of_ordinances.
Huntington City Council authorized the contract with the Municipal Code Corporation to digitize and host the city’s ordinances and charter online in October 2014. The company hosts municipal codes online for eight other West Virginia cities, including Charleston, Beckley and Bluefield.
“This is a vital step toward making city government more accessible to the public,” City Council Chairman Mark Bates said. “Additionally, it will reduce the time it takes city employees to search ordinances and make operations at City Hall more efficient.”
The website offers a user-friendly keyword search as well as download and print functions for the municipal code and city charter. Ordinances on the website have been codified through Dec. 22, 2014. All other ordinances adopted since then are also listed on the website but have not been codified yet. Ordinances will be codified online periodically.
A hard copy of the city’s codified ordinances is still available for inspection in the City Clerk’s Office, located in Room 16 at City Hall. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
