Cleanup crew implemented in downtown Huntington

HUNTINGTON – The City of Huntington’s Public Works Department has implemented a permanent, downtown cleanup crew

This two-man crew, which started last week and consists of a laborer and truck driver, will work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and will be responsible for picking up loose trash, cleaning streets, trimming weeds, removing graffiti from public property and addressing sidewalk and curb issues.

Their coverage area will be from 1st Street to Hal Greer Boulevard between 3rd and 5th avenues. They also will be responsible for cleaning underpasses.

"Our downtown is a shining gem in the Jewel City and is one of the most dynamic and eclectic downtowns in the Appalachian region because of the hard work and commitment of our small business owners," Mayor Steve Williams said. "The City of Huntington's role is to protect is polish this gem to its brightest luster and protect our downtown business owners’ investments by addressing any issues they may have. The downtown cleanup crew will complement the Huntington Police Department's downtown foot patrol."

Downtown residents and business owners are asked to call 304-696-5540, Ext. 2202, to bring an issue to the cleanup crew’s attention.
